3 x Shop – Inspiration for your online shop

31. May 2010/0 Comments/in Online shop & ecommerce /by Volker Schwarz

While copying from someone else's paper in school is certainly frowned upon. Having a look at what the competition is doing in e-commerce is a must. Take a peek over your shoulder and see what your competition has come up with for designs of their online shops. You might just come up with a different idea for an accomplished and sales-promoting design for your own e-commerce presence. Our 360-degree look around the colourful work of ePages online shops will show you what options you have.

kokkinoshop.co.uk

The online shop of the British jeweler kokkino is all about precious silver and gold chains, bracelets and rings. To really showcase the products, kokkino selected an unostentatious design for the shop. Light, bright grey tones form a enclosing space with a large white area that gives the products room to breathe and make an optimal presentation. Large product images and an unadorned and open header underscore the exclusive offering of the jeweler. Colour accents for information texts and product descriptions are visually appealing and add to the exclusive feeling of the site without overpowering the high-resolution product photos. All-in-all, a harmonious and reduced design.

store.alanwake.com

Alan Wake, the latest hit for Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console hit the market in May 2010 after nearly 9 years of development. Accompanying the release of the game, a merchandising online store went live on the game's website. Game fans can discover and purchase all the popular merchandise available, including T-shirts and accessories. Of course, the main character of the game features prominently in the design. A semi-transparent content window floats above a background image of the protagonist Alan Wake, who is always visible for fans and customers. Remedy, the game’s developer uses this to create an identification with the actual product – the game itself. The entire shop is presented in a grim atmosphere, appropriate for the game – a zombie shoot-em-up.

sunnakidz.com

Sunnakidz, a French online shop for Muslim children's books, posters, DVDs and CDs has a completely different presentation. Cheerful colours dominate the appearance but are not combined indiscriminately. Instead, the title section dominates in green, the colour for the Muslim religion in all Islamic countries. The shop's background appears in the complementary colour violet. This frames the presentation, which always stays close to the Muslim and occidental theme. Numerous small, playful design elements which resemble children's paintings, stylized Facebook buttons and the targeted use of hand-written fonts completes the friendly impression the site makes.
