Mandatory starting in September: legal guarantee notice and GARAN label for your ePages shop
From 27 September 2026, online merchants selling goods to consumers in the EU must comply with new information requirements. These introduce two standardised formats: the legal guarantee notice and the GARAN label.
Which of these do you need for your shop? In this article, we explain the differences and show you how to add them to your shop.
What changes in September?
Statutory rights and voluntary manufacturer guarantees already exist. What is new is that merchants must now use a standardised EU notice and label to provide this information. This follows the EmpCo Directive. It aims to help customers better understand their rights and identify products with longer durability guarantees.
For your shop, this means making the required information available from that date. The notice and label do not extend statutory guarantee periods. They do not require you to offer an additional guarantee either.
The legal guarantee notice: information for your customers
The legal guarantee notice explains customers’ statutory rights when goods are faulty. As the seller, you are their point of contact. Customers can generally request a free repair or replacement first. Under certain conditions, they may also be entitled to a price reduction or to return the goods for a refund.
If you sell goods to consumers, you generally need to display the legal guarantee notice. This also applies to small shops, regardless of whether you offer additional guarantees. The notice applies to your shop as a whole and does not need to be repeated for each product.
If you sell exclusively to business customers, this requirement does not apply to you. The notice and label are not intended for standalone downloads or services, which are subject to their own information requirements.
The GARAN label: when you need it
The GARAN label indicates an additional commercial guarantee of durability provided by the manufacturer. This is the manufacturer’s promise that the product will retain its functions and performance under normal use throughout the stated period.
You must display the label for the relevant product if all of the following conditions are met:
- The durability guarantee is provided by the manufacturer.
- It is offered at no additional cost to the customer.
- It covers the entire product.
- It lasts for more than two years.
- The manufacturer has made the relevant information available to you.
For example, a free five-year durability guarantee covering an entire washing machine may meet these conditions. A guarantee covering only the motor, a paid guarantee extension, or a guarantee provided solely by the retailer does not.
Check the information your manufacturers have provided about guarantees for the products you sell. Your customers’ statutory rights remain unaffected by any additional guarantee.

Settings for the Legal guarantee notice
- Open the Editor and set the new legal page “Legal guarantee notice” to visible.
- If you have defined custom texts in your checkout settings, add a link to the legal guarantee notice to the text shown at the checkout step ”Check & order”.
- In your email notification settings, check the box to automatically attach the legal guarantee notice to the order receipt confirmation.
Adding the GARAN label to a product
In the settings for a product, under the Legal section, you can upload a GARAN label for the product.

Making the “Legal guarantee notice” page available
- In the administration area of your shop, navigate to Content/Categories > Datasheet view.
- In the last row of the table, enter “Legal guarantee notice” in the Name column and select the Legal guarantee notice option in the Type column. This option is shown at the very bottom of the drop-down menu.
- Save.
- Select the name of the Legal guarantee notice page in the table.
- Under Visible in shop, select the Yes option.
- Under Visible in the menu, select the No option.
- If you would like to enter your own texts to be displayed above the legal guarantee notice, select Texts and enter the texts.
- Save.
Adding a link to the “Legal guarantee notice” page in the footer
- Navigate to Design and then Advanced design.
- In the footer, select the + icon.
- On the left-hand side, select Information pages.
- On the right-hand side, select Link to legal guarantee notice. This option is shown at the very bottom of the list.
- Select Insert.
- Save.
Adding a link to the “Legal guarantee notice” page in the checkout process
- In the main menu, select Settings and then Basket settings.
- Select Texts.
- In the Order step: Check & order field, add a link to the legal guarantee notice page. You can add the link to any of the checkout fields listed.
- Save.
Attaching the legal guarantee notice to the notification email sent to your customers
- In the main menu, select Settings and then Order document settings.
- Select Legal guarantee notice in emails.
- Here you can choose which emails and order documents the legal guarantee notice should automatically be attached to as a PDF.
- Save.
Adding the GARAN label to a product
In the settings for a product, under the Legal section, you can upload a GARAN label for the product.
How to edit the visibility of the legal guarantee notice page
- In the sidebar of the cockpit, navigate to Editor. The Editor opens.
- Navigate to Pages and scroll down to Legal pages.
- Next to the page Legal guarantee notice, select the three dots and then the gear icon. A pop-up opens.
- Under Visible in footer, select Yes.
- Select Save.
