Next in Commerce: Amazon Prime Air and other ideas for future logistics

by Hermann Bach, 03.12.13

icon_visual_commerce2Amazon has created a commotion with their plans to let drones deliver goods. Unmanned aerial vehicles are only one of many innovations to improve online businesses’ logistics. Our project, Next in commerce, shows the most exciting trends in the Future of Logistics.

According to Amazon’s plans, only 30 minutes will pass between ordering and delivery to the customer. The small aircrafts are to carry goods up to two and a half kilograms. The service will be limited to urban areas because the drones will fly only a maximum of 10 miles. The launch is scheduled for 2015.

For our Next in Commerce project we have sought after innovations that make transport faster, safer and more reliable. Here are two examples:

  • The German start-up, HierBeiDir.com, compiles offerings from local merchants on a web platform. Customers can order them via desktop, mobile Internet or a phone call. The ordered goods will be delivered within 90 minutes by bicycle couriers.

  • MyTaxi is not only an app to find a cab but also a service to get a same day delivery to your home or office by a taxi. Among the partners are the German tech retailer Media-Markt.

On our Next in Commerce website you get an overview of all ideas for Future Logistics that we have discovered.

Next in Commerce is a cooperation with the industry initiative, Hamburg@work. Trend scouts from TrendONE researched worldwide for future-oriented start-ups, business ideas and commerce concepts.
